Australian Car Rental – Brisbane By Car

Brisbane, Queensland Australia, is located in the northern latitudes, thus boasts some of the best weather of any of the capital cities. The city lies on the Brisbane River and spreads across to Moreton Bay, and therefore revolves around water sports and pastimes. Brisbane is a sprawled out metropolis, and occupies a large geographical area. This reason alone makes car rental a logical option when seeing the sights of Brisbane.

Brisbane Attractions

The centre of Brisbane is fast becoming a thriving hub for commerce. Brisbane has been the fastest growing capital city in Australia over the last decade, so once people visit they obviously think it’s a great place to live! The CBD is a great place to shop and eat, with entertainers frequenting the popular malls and parks. The great variety of food is well worth experiencing. The area of Fortitude Valley is fast becoming the centre of culture and “cool”. The Valley is a popular spot for arts and crafts, and when the sun goes down, becomes the centre of Brisbane’s nightlife. Any time of the day, Brisbane has more than enough attractions and activities to travel to and from by car rental. Brisbane will never bore you, as the city is alive

One of the most famous Brisbane attractions is the South Bank area. The old site of the World Expo 88, it has been preserved and modified to provide the public with a fantastic variety of entertainment and pastimes all week long. With everything from art galleries and museums, to market stalls and musicians, South Bank deserves its reputation as one of the best waterside entertainment areas in the world.

Driving around Brisbane is not as hard as you would imagine, considering it is the CBD of Australia’s third largest city. The Valley, the city and South Bank are all easily and quickly reached, with parking readily available for you rental car. Brisbane has a good public transport system, and if you wish to stay in the city, an all day pass would be a good option. However, Brisbane car rental is much more flexible if you wish to visit some of the outer regions.

Outside Brisbane

Moreton Bay
Moreton Bay plays a big part in the city of Brisbane’s trade and recreation. The major industries use the shipping routes for their supplies, but the area is also one of Queensland’s biggest tourist attractions. The bay is home to some beautiful sand islands, all surrounded on the weekend by leisurely boating enthusiasts, anchored and enjoying the sun. You will easily find some tour operators that will show you a different outlook on the city – Brisbane by tour boat, rather than Brisbane by rental car. The largest of all islands, sheltering Moreton Bay from the Pacific Ocean, is Moreton Island. Moreton Bay is accessible by four wheel drive, or by day tour. The island contains some beautiful calm waters on the western bay side, and some long straight open sandy coast on the ocean side. Forests and lakes are dotted over the island, and make it a worthwhile visit – probably worth spending a few days away from Brisbane. Car rental is available if you want to hire a 4WD, but check the availability first to avoid disappointment.

The Gold Coast and The Sunshine Coast
Brisbane is the centre of a circle of destinations, all within a day or two of the Brisbane car rental depots. The Gold Coast to the south, and the Sunshine Coast to the north, both present some beautiful towns and attractions that are well worth the trip. The classic Australian theme parks of Sea World, Dreamworld, Movie World, and Wet 'n' Wild, all lie less than an hour to the south. The central Gold Coast represents the over-exaggerated flashy glitzy lifestyle of the region, and time can be passed just driving around looking at the weird and wonderful characters that frequent its boulevards. The Sunshine Coast, although not so “Baywatch-like” still exemplify the Australian beach culture that South East Queensland is famous for. Many little towns and beaches are accessible easily from the major highway, and will delight any visitor in search of a place to spend the day. If you jump in your rental car and just head where the whim takes you, you will always find enjoyment and fulfilment in all directions.
