Australian Car Rental – Adelaide By Car

Adelaide is located in South Australia, on the Southern Ocean. The city has the rather dubious honor of being known as the “City of Churches”, with good solid, dignified, foundations. This is a reputation that the local establishment has tried to shrug off over the years, and recently Adelaide has asserted itself as a city full of fun and entertainment. The city’s beautiful past has left its mark, with strong, beautiful architecture.

The city streets of Adelaide are set out in a grid pattern which makes it easy for visitors to the city to navigate. Adelaide airport is only 6kms from Adelaide's city centre so it is only a short drive in your rental car to the city. Adelaide is a very picturesque city thanks to it old buildings and to the fact that the whole city is surrounded by green parkland.

Adelaide Attractions

There are many things to see and do in Adelaide. There is the Adelaide Arts Festival, The Fringe Festival and the Womadelaide festival. If you like shopping you need to visit Rundle mall. With all the major department stores, and lots of smaller stores as back up, you could easily spend an entire day there. Adelaide's most popular beach would have to be at Glenelg, and if the weathers not up to your liking you can always go to the amusement park instead. While you are at Glenelg you have to visit the HMS Buffalo. Its a replica of the ship that brought the first settlers to Adelaide. On board you will find a magnificent seafood restaurant.

Outside Adelaide

Heading away from Adelaide city, you can drive your hire car to Mt Lofty Ranges for some bush walking ,or just take in the views. Or you could drive to Hahndorf. Hahndorf is the oldest surviving German settlement in Australia.Settled in 1839, its now a lovely tourist town with lots to look at.

Adelaide is where most people start when going to the famous Barossa Valley. What a lot of people miss though is McLarren Vale, which has a long history in wineries, the first one being established in 1838. The area is particularly well suited to reds.If you are lucky enough to visit in late October you should be able to take part in the McLarren Vale Wine Bushing festival.
